Comparison Overview – Maybelline New York 24Hr Super Stay vs Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundations

Apart from the brand, the foundations have other key differences. First of all, there is the skin type each is suitable for. The Revlon Colorstay comes in two different lines for different skin types. One line is for combination/oily skin while the other is for normal/dry skin.

Maybelline Super Stay, on its own part, is suitable for every skin type. Whether you are oily or dry, normal or combination, you have a fit. As long as you get the right shade for your skin tone, you are good to go.

Their finish is different. While Maybelline Super Stay gives you a natural and light finish, Revlon Colorstay gives a matte finish for combination/oily skin and a dewy finish for normal/dry skin.

For the available shades, the Maybelline Super Stay comes in about 28 different shades to suit different skin tones. The Revlon Colorstay comes in 43 shades for the combination/oily skin and in 24 shades for the normal/dry skin.

Revlon Colorstay contains SPF, depending on the shade. The lighter the shade, the higher the sunscreen contained therein. But Maybelline Super Stay contains no sunscreen.

As for their packaging, both come in bottles with dispensing pumps, which are usually the preferred packaging.

As we go on, we will explain these differences as well as the similarities in detail. But first, check out the price/value and comparison table sections below.

Price/Value Ratio – Maybelline New York 24Hr Super Stay vs Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundations

It is hardly believable that these are drugstore foundations. These days, drugstore products are giving the high-end ones a run for their money, in that they give about the same benefits at much lower prices.

Believe it or not, people are veering towards them because why spend so much on something when you can get just about the same for much cheaper, right?

Both foundations being compared in this article are very affordable. But the value they give far outweigh their prices. Take it from us, they are worth the try.

Which Is Better for What Situation? – Maybelline New York 24Hr Super Stay vs Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundations

Maybelline Super Stay

Revlon Colorstay

If you find your skin type doesn’t fall within any category for the Revlon Colorstay line, you may want to try this. It is meant for every skin type.

For light makeup or if you tend towards wearing only foundation without powder, this would fit right in because it gives a very natural finish.

Again, if you are an outdoorsy person or live in a humid area, it would stay right on and not slide off nor transfer easily to clothing.

However, it may take you a while to get it blended due to the fact it is not creamy. Therefore, if you tend to be a hurry and need to do a quick makeup, this is not for you.

There are so many shades under the Colorstay, both for the combination/oily and normal/dry.

If you had previously found it hard to get your perfect shade in other drugstore foundations, you may want to check this one out.

Seeing as oily skin really finds it hard to get the right foundation, the combination/oily skin type could work for you. It has worked for many other users in the same category.

It goes on easily and is easy to blend. But for the matte type (combination/oily skin), you would need to blend it as fast as you apply. This is because it dries out really quick.

Common Features – Maybelline New York 24Hr Super Stay vs Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundations

Oil Content

Both foundations contain little or no oil. For the normal/dry skin under Revlon Colorstay, the oil content would be to keep dry skin moisturized so that it does not dry out completely.

Oil plays its own part in skincare. It helps to create a barrier over the skin to keep moisture from evaporating from the skin. That same barrier also helps keep out environmental pollutants and impurities.

But then again, it can keep nutrients and helpful ingredients from penetrating the skin to work. That way, it becomes detrimental.

Staying Power

The Super Stay and the Colorstay claim to stay for as long as 24 hours without completely wearing out. Even though we can say hardly anybody wears makeup that long, some people do wear them for up to 13 hours or more.

But their claim is true. Both foundations stay on working for hours.

Consistency

None of the foundations is in powder form; both are liquid. They are not very watery; that would make them too light to give good coverage. They maintain a good balance between watery and thick.

Packaging

All the shades and types under both lines of foundations come in bottles with pump. The Revlon Colorstay packaging is more readily noticeable as having a pump than the Maybelline Super Stay.

This type of packaging makes it easy to dispense the product without making a mess or wasting it. You can get little amounts at a time and even if you get too much, you can’t put it back. This helps to maintain its hygienic state. Contamination of products is one thing skincare enthusiasts detest.

Coverage

Both lines of foundations offer medium to full coverage, depending on what you prefer. For the Maybelline, you can wear it alone, without any primer or powder and it will hold up. And a little of it goes a long way in covering spots and discolorations.

For the combination/oily type under Revlon, you may need to use some pressing powder to blend in the patches you may have. This does not mean it cannot hold up on its own without powder, though.

In all, the coverage is dependent on who is using it and the occasion it is meant for.

Oxidization

For many drugstore foundations and concealers, there is always a chance of oxidization. And the foundations being compared are no different.

Oxidization means the shades tend to go darker than their original colors when air hits the foundations. You could choose 350 Rich Tan under the Colorstay, for example, and end up with 355 Almond.

It is usually better to mix shades or go with something slightly lighter than your usual shade. This is to give room for oxidization.

Unique Features – Maybelline New York 24Hr Super Stay vs Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundations

Skin Type

The Super Stay is suitable for all every skin type. Whether you have oily or dry skin, combination or normal skin, the Super Stay is for you. This is so long as you can find the right shade for you.

The Colorstay, on the other hand, offers foundations for combination/oily skin and normal/dry skin. These skin types cover a huge number of people but not really everyone. However, it is still good news, especially for oily skin, which has a hard time finding a foundation that actually works.

Shades

There are about 28 shades within the Super Stay line of foundations. This is good, considering that it caters to all skin types. But it is still a bit restrictive when compared to other foundations that have so much more shades to offer.

The Colorstay line, however, offers about 43 shades for the combination/oily skin type and 24 shades for the normal/dry skin type. This is a wider array of options to choose from, for customers.

Finish

The Super Stay gives you a more natural finish than the Colorstay. This is true even though the normal/dry skin foundation advertises as giving a natural finish. However, we have to concede that this depends on who wears each and how well they are applied.

The Super Stay could start off as a semi-matte finish, giving a hint of dewiness. But it is not drying and doesn’t give that whole mattified look that full-on matte gives. And as the day wears on, it looks even more natural than when you started out.

For the combination/oily foundation in the Colorstay line, it gives a matte finish. It is not totally drying but gives that velvety look that matte tends to offer.

Sunscreen

Maybelline Super Stay does not come with sunscreen, at least not advertised. It contains a bit of titanium dioxide, which could act as protection from the sun.

On the other hand, Revlon Colorstay contains sunscreen. Most, if not all, of its shades contain broad spectrum SPF 15. The broad spectrum kind is good because it protects from both ultraviolet A rays and ultraviolet B rays.

Blending

While the Maybelline Super Stay takes a while to get blended, the Revlon Colorstay does not. This is because the Super Stay is not creamy so doesn’t glide on to ease blending. You may need to use a brush or blender rather than just your fingers. But when done right, it looks really good.

The Colorstay for combination/oily skin is matte so dries out easily. And if you don’t start blending it in as quickly as you apply it, it will dry out fast. Otherwise, it goes on smoothly and blends easily, unlike the Super Stay.

Unique Pros – Maybelline New York 24Hr Super Stay vs Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundations

Pros Unique to the Super Stay

i. It is suitable for all skin types.

ii. The foundation, whichever you choose, gives you a natural finish.

iii. Moreover, it does not run when the weather is humid or when you sweat. And it equally does not transfer easily unto clothes or other people.

iv. It is lightweight and does not get cakey or creasy.

v. For oily skin, it holds in the shine for hours. For dry skin, it keeps the face glowing without any dry patch.

Pros Unique to the Colorstay

i. We like that it is divided to suit four different skin types. There is something for combination/oily skin and something for normal/dry skin.

ii. Its availability in more than 65 shades for the two categories combined gives a vast array to choose from, no restrictions.

iii. The inclusion of the broad spectrum type of sunscreen is also something we like.

iv. It gives a flawless and velvety look with its matte finish and a dewy glow for its more natural finish. Both looks hold up for as long as you have them on.

v. Additionally, it blends pretty easily, whichever one you choose, due to the fact that it glides on smoothly.

Unique Cons – Maybelline New York 24Hr Super Stay vs Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundations

Cons Unique to the Super Stay

i. It could be a little hard to blend, especially with the fingertips. This is because it is not creamy.

ii. There are not that many shades to choose from. That is sort of restrictive.

iii. Besides, it contains little or no sunscreen.

Cons Unique to the Colorstay

Common Cons – Maybelline New York 24Hr Super Stay vs Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundations

Super Stay

Colorstay

Liquid Content The liquid content is quite small and may run out fast. Similarly, this option is small, the same size as the Super Stay.
May Oxidize As is usual with many drugstore foundations, there is a chance it will oxidize. The same is applicable to this product.

What Users Have to Say – Maybelline New York 24Hr Super Stay vs Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundations

Super Stay

Colorstay

Users like its finish. They like how it keeps a balance between dewy and matte.

Its long-wearing nature, which they also like, does not affect its finish, which is saying a lot for a drugstore product.

Moreover, its ability to not cause breakout, even for sensitive skin, is unbelievable for most of those with sensitive skin.

For all it does, and for the price it goes for, it is much more than a bargain as far as they are concerned. It is a steal.

But users say they would like to see it in more shades, as the available ones are not enough.

For the Colorstay, users also like how long it can stay and how easily it can be blended.

They also like that the combination/oily type really does hold the shine for long hours. One user found that it held from morning till night without reapplication. This is despite having very oily skin.

In addition to all these, they like that it is not too heavy on the skin, even though its consistency is slightly thick.

However, they don’t like that the matte for combination/oily skin dries out too quickly. For some users, they found the product had dried in the bottle just a few weeks after purchase.

Our Verdict – Maybelline New York 24Hr Super Stay vs Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundations

From our review, we can honestly say that each line of foundations has its unique strengths and weaknesses. Because of these, we cannot boldly say one trumps the other.

What we can say, though, is that both can work together. It is normal to have different foundations, from different brands, to switch from time to time.

So if you are looking for new recommendations of foundations to add to your collection, we recommend these. This is especially true if you use a lot of makeup and need something really affordable to get the job done.
